To book this program, your school must have the following criteria:

School principal and every teacher must be present at the assembly
·
A clear definition of bullying
·         A defined set of consequences for bully behavior
·
A reward system for positive behavior
·
Be willing to address a large increase in bully reporting
·
Have willing teachers or a responsible adult designated as

the “go to adult” for each grade

·
Teachers and adults who will listen, intervene and help care for

the well being of each student

Thank you for choosing to have this program at your school.

Please follow the directions below.

1-     Separate students who are disruptive when sitting next to each other.  Perhaps different teachers can trade disruptive students and place them in opposite areas of the gym.

PLACE BULLIES IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF GYM WITH OTHER CLASSES, AWAY FROM THEIR CLASS.

2-     Assembly for K-2 is 30 minutes long.
Click Here for two sided handout example.

3-     Assembly for 3-6 is an hour and a half long, (and must begin on time), with a writing assignment directly after the assembly.  Teachers will lead a class discussion before, during or after the class writing assignment.  (This assembly with the writing assignment and class discussion is two hours long.)  Following the two hour block students may be released to recess or lunch hour.  It’s extremely important to have students complete the writing assignment and class discussion before being released.

4-     If possible, many days before the assembly teachers can start building anticipation about the upcoming assembly.  Perhaps hinting it is a very serious assembly and very different from any assembly before.

5-     Please look over the seating chart.  Each class will sit in a straight line when possible, facing the center of the gym, not the screen.

6-     Everyday Hero stickers are provided.  During the next few weeks you can award them to those showing Everyday Hero behavior / choices, so they can be recognized and admired by peers.

7-     Audio CDs of our theme song have been given to your school.  Sometimes teachers like to have our theme song, even make up their own lyrics.  Our lyrics can be printed from our website.  You may make as many copies of the song as you like.

8-     Our logo in both color and black and white .jpg files are on our site.  You may copy them and print your own certificates or stickers if you want.

9-     The writing assignment is for your benefit.  I would like to read them if possible.  So, if you can fax a few to me or mail a few that would be great.

IF STUDENTS ARE NOT READY TO START ON TIME, THE ASSEMBLY CAN NOT BE CUT SHORT.  PLEASE HAVE STUDENTS IN THE GYM READY TO BEGIN PROMPTLY.

During the next few weeks you will see a large increase in reporting, however, you should also see a decrease in verbal and physical bullying.

This program will not instantly erase bullying from your school; however it will refocus and remind everyone to work toward the goal of being a bully free school.

This program was created with the help of nine elementary school principals, 3 school psychologists and social workers.  I welcome your positive and negative comments.  If you would like to give comments anonymously please fax them to the number below, otherwise, please send me an email. info@corbinwhite.com

If anyone has questions please call 801-963-9999.  I will be happy to answer all of your questions.  Bring a bottle of water and get ready for a very different assembly.

Thanks for your time,

Sincerely,

(VERY IMPORTANT -  students must return to class and participate in a discussion and writing assignment directly after the 1:30 assembly.  Those schools who have chosen to send students out to recess between the two time frames have not had the success others have by returning to class for the discussion.)

Writing Assignment.

Choose to write about one of the following three choices or all three:

A time when you were a bully at _____________________ Elementary.

A time when you were a bystander of bullying at ______________________Elementary.

A time when you were bullied at _____________________Elementary.

and then everyone must write about,

A time when you were an EVERYDAY HERO.
