“Since the assembly, physical bullying has decreased by
about 50 – 75 percent, …The terms you used to describe bullying really struck a
spark with the kids and both teachers and myself are now using the same terms.
The teachers thoroughly enjoyed the assembly and found the information that you
shared to be useful in addressing the issues with bullying that arise on a daily
basis in the classroom and on the playground. the assembly was a starting
point for teachers to use in class discussions with the students in talking
about both verbal and physical bullying and what a bully is. Teachers
reported to me that students came to them after the assembly to clarify if an
action was bullying or a one time incident; asked if verbal comments were really
another form of bullying; report previously unreported bullying which then could
be consequenced. It was also nice to see that an assembly doesn't have to
be about flashing lights and lots of color to make a difference with kids.
Thanks!"

“Everyday Heroes Assembly was the most beneficial and insightful program on the
topic of Bullying that our students have experienced. The students were
attentive to every minute of the assembly and gained knowledge on dealing with
bullies and difficult situations. It definitely gave them insight into why
some students are bullies. After the assembly the students went back to
their classrooms to reflect on what they had seen and to discuss and write about
their thoughts. Many students chose to write about the times they had been
an Everyday hero to another child. this assembly got the message to our
students that it is "cool" to do the right thing and not to be a bully."

”Our teachers are giving out Everyday Hero awards everyday for exemplary
behavior or kind acts. The students then come to my office for a ticket.
The ticket goes into a drawing and then on Friday I pull out a few names.
I then give them a certificate, a pass to the Aquarium, and I take their photo.
The photos are displayed for everyone to see. This process has truly
improved behavior. Thank you Corbin. I appreciate this help."

“I couldn’t believe the impact that it had on my
students. ... the format of the assembly was unlike anything I have seen
before. The seating for the assembly was in the round, with students
facing toward the middle everyone able to watch the screen. this setting
gave a feeling of safety and intimacy. Corbin lead the students in a
discussion of what bullying was and how it impacted everyone. he showed
video clips of students in bullying situations. he told personal stories
from individuals that had been bullied and how they overcame being bullied.
As the videos and pictures played across the screen, there was silence in the
auditorium...My students started to cry as they felt empathy for the kids who
were being bullied. … Afterward, one of my students broke down into tears, as he
realized that he was a bully. I encourage every school to experience this
assembly.“

“Corbin White’s “Everyday Heroes” assembly was wonderful. It provided common
vocabulary all of the staff and students can use. It is great to see the light
come on when they realize they are either tattling or should be ignoring
something. The content of the assembly has also helped those who were bullying
to better realize why they bullied. Our student council is looking for Everyday
Heroes and giving them stickers. It has been a very positive experience.”
– Rob Keddington, Principal – Park Elementary
“The assembly was energetic and captivating to all my students…even the ones who
really needed to stop and think about their negative actions. It was applauded
by the teachers as well. Teachers immediately had the students connect to their
learning with a writing assignment. Definitely an assembly to have next year as
well.”
– Marilyn Laughlin, Principal – Gerald Wright Elementary
“Students and teachers were very responsive to the content of the show. I
have talked to students who are using the very techniques you gave them to use
when they are being bullied. … The comments students made as a result of the
writing activity were eye opening. … The program was great.”
– Dahlia Cordova, Principal – Franklin Elementary
"My sixth graders enjoyed your program very much. ...The message and mode
of communicating the message was effective and has stuck with them. Our
discussion following the program was both open and honest. Students
readily share stories of times they had been bullied, were bullies, or were
observers of bullying. We were able to do a lot of processing and talking
about what was going on that may have caused the bullying and how the situation
was resolved (or not). It is always useful to have a common language to
share in school surrounding issues that affect the entire student body. I
think that your program bolstered some of the ideas and concepts we work on when
teaching our students about bullying. Overall I thought the presentation
was captivating and engaging."
-Chris Gesteland, Sixth Grade Teacher - Highland Park Elementary
"Excitement and informative was the main event of this assembly by Corbin White!
Students were provided with many tools to better understand why bullies do what
they do and how to report it and get help. The videos were very eye
catching for the students and a GREAT visual to help them relate to the
experiences of bullying. One student commented, "I have seen a student in
our school bully and now I know some things I can do to report and help my
friend get help!" We can use the catch phrase of "Everyday Heroes" in our
daily messages on the intercom to remind students to become that Hero to other
students! The stickers were also an excellent reminder and visual for
students."
-Sherry Eaton, Intern Facilitator - Spanish Oaks Elementary
"Corbin White has a way of connecting with students and delivering powerful
messages. I watched Corbin plan, develop and produce an anti-bullying
assembly that empowers students and provides them with the knowledge and skills
that enables them to become Everyday Heroes. This assembly has had a
positive impact on our students and has given us a common language as we strive
to make our school bully free."
- JoAnn Crawley, Principal - Calvin Smith Elementary
"The Everyday Heroes assembly as had a very positive effect at our school.
Although we have made an effort to address bullying with our "Tough Kid" Bully
Blocker program, the assembly increased awareness for students and staff and
enhanced strategies already in place. Students were overheard commenting
on their efforts to earn the Everyday heroes stickers and wore them with pride.
the Everyday Hero assembly provides students and staff with "real life"
solutions for bullying behavior and world be a positive step in addressing this
difficult problem for any school community.
